Use Photoshop Brushes to add different elements ~ Blog

One of the techniques I use in my images is Photoshop Brushes. I use these brushes to give different effects, add texture to a sky, add creative effects such as fog or brush in grass where needed and much more. Brushes enhance your workflow.

Some of the brushes I used for the Hobbiton at Night Time image was to paint in grass on the roof after I removed a tree, brushes that added light beams to give the impression of light streaming out of the windows and a brush to add fire fly’s to the lantern over the door and many others.

Grass brush – I did not like the tree on the right-hand side as I wanted a clean look on the roof line and show more sky. I removed the tree using different techniques, then to add a textured grass look to the roof line I used one of my grass brushes. I selected the brush I was after and sampled the colour in green near the roof line and brushed in the grass. Sometimes you have to adjust the opacity of your brush to get the desired effect.

Smoke brush – I thought it would be good to have some smoke coming out of the chimney to add a lived-in look to the cottage. I used a brush to create that effect, I got the brush from a website that has free brushes.

Light brush – the variety of brushes for adding light are endless. I used a light beam brush to create the effect, I selected a colour that would work with a tungsten light feel and brushed in light at the windows and from the lantern.
