Your Creative Space ~ Blog
Creativity is a process that requires inspiration, focus, and freedom.
While some people thrive in a cluttered environment, others prefer a tidy workspace to be productive. Your creative space can inspire or demotivate you, depending on the atmosphere you create.
My creative space
During one of my recent online classes, the topic of our workspaces came up, which led me to contemplate my own work area and the transformation. As I was spending more time in my creative space, particularly over the past few years I decided to make this space work for me.
Personally, I prefer a minimalist approach, and have designed a space that is serene and conducive to productivity for me.
I am fortunate to have converted a room into a creative office/studio. During lockdown I revamped my whole space I painted the walls a neutral color, even though I love working with colour I opted for a neutral colour, the reason being I didn’t want the colour to dominate my space, which is like an L shape, I have a few of my images on the walls I wanted the colours of the images to be the focal point not the colour of the walls. I also decluttered, threw out old magazines that I hadn’t touched in ages, bought cube storage boxes from Ikea to store my camera gear, cables, paper for printer and so on, my bits and pieces are tucked away but easy to get to.
Over time, I have acquired a standing desk, my desk is an L shape that allows space for both computer equipment ( 2 monitors, wacom tablet etc) and a space to write (I’m a list writer) a commercial grade ergonomic chair, large desk mat for keyboard and mouse I bought this recently and love it (it protects the desk) , I’ve personalised it with subtle touches, I added a chair and small side table with books I’m reading . Recently, I added a plant to my studio, which is said to purify the air, I read also it is good to have living elements in your space. It's been a while since I've had real plants due to frequent travels, now I’m not travelling as much I can have a plant, who I have named “Lily”. This is my creative space where I can create and work.
What is next for my space
I will add a couple of more plants, great for air quality. I’m looking at buying a floor lamp that I can have on instead of the overhead light source wanting to give it a cosy feel.
“No matter how big or small your space or desk is,
create that place that inspires your imagination. “
Tips for your Creative Space
I did some research from my Interior Styling days and found some interesting information.
Cluttered vs. Tidy Workspaces
Some people thrive in a cluttered environment, while others prefer a tidy workspace. For those who work best in a cluttered environment, the chaos around them can inspire new ideas and stimulate their creativity. On the other hand, a tidy workspace can provide a clear and organized environment, allowing for better focus and concentration.
In a cluttered workspace, it is important to create a system that works for you. Make sure everything has a designated place and is easily accessible when needed. This will help you avoid spending time searching for the tools you need and keep the clutter under control. Alternatively, in a tidy workspace, make sure you create a system that allows you to easily find what you need when you need it.
I am not a fan of clutter and tend to keep my workspace tidy. Similarly, in my kitchen, I only have essential items on display, such as a microwave, coffee machine, and fruit bowl.
Inspiring vs. Demotivating Spaces
Your creative space can be a source of inspiration or a source of demotivation. If your workspace is cluttered, dark, and uninspiring, it can be difficult to feel motivated to create. Alternatively, if your workspace is bright, organized, and filled with inspiring items, it can fuel your creativity and help you feel excited about your work.
To create an inspiring workspace, start by thinking about what inspires you. This could be anything from artwork to nature to motivational quotes. Incorporate these items into your workspace to create a space that reflects your personality and inspires you to create.

When considering your workspace, it's important to determine what level of clutter you are comfortable with. Some people work better in a tidy environment, while others prefer a bit of creative chaos. Whatever your preference, make sure that your workspace is conducive to your productivity and personal style.
Consider the space you have available to you, and make the most of it by personalizing it with touches that reflect your personality. Your creative space can have a significant impact on your productivity and creativity. Whether you prefer a cluttered or tidy workspace, it is important to create a system that works for you. Your workspace should be an inspiring and motivating environment that reflects your personality and fuels your creativity.
